Does foreign direct investment affect poverty in BRICS?

This study examined the influence of foreign direct investment (FDI) on poverty alleviation in BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) using panel methods econometric estimation, namely pooled ordinary least squares (OLS), fixed effects fully modified (FMOLS). Data from 1989 to 2020 was used this study. The majority research FDI-led has ignored omitted variable bias. Economic growth as a channel FDI–poverty nexus also explored. relationship between FDI so far produced mixed results with no general consensus, hence triggering undertaking context BRICS. Except for mortality rate, triggered by achieved (model 1 under effects; model 2 (OLS). growth-led reduction observed across all three methods. interaction (FDI x economic growth) significantly enhanced 3 data employed. Similar were OLS methodology. Policies geared at promoting reduce should be implemented authorities. Further explore minimum threshold levels necessary such would more useful relevant policymaking decisions relating reduction.
